Okārito Penguin Tour

Begin your tour with stunning panoramas of Mt. Tasman and Mt. Cook, New Zealand's highest peaks, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience. Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the Okārito Lagoon, a renowned feeding ground for the elegant white heron, or Kotuku. Explore the lush rainforest pathways leading to a secluded lagoon, alive with the songs of native birds like the kea, kereru, and the elusive Rowi kiwi.

Wander along the rugged West Coast beach, taking in the marine reserve's untouched beauty. As dusk falls, pause to witness the enchanting Korora, or little blue penguins, as they make their way up the beach for the night.

This tour also offers the chance to spot rare creatures like long-tailed bats, fur seals, Hector’s dolphins, and occasionally, southern right whales during migration seasons. As night descends, tune into the calls of the Ruru (morepork) and the rare Rowi kiwi, enhancing this magical experience.

Your tour price includes a donation to the West Coast Penguin Trust, supporting local conservation efforts.

Note: A good fitness level is required and while we cannot guarantee penguin sightings, each tour promises its own unique adventure and is dependent on weather conditions.

Join us for an unforgettable glimpse into the wild beauty of Okārito, and enrich your appreciation for New Zealand’s unique ecology and heritage.
